Weekend Recap

So last weekend was quite busy- as my best friend got married on Saturday!!  So there was no riding Friday or Saturday, but I did get a mani-pedi with one of my favorite Essie shades- Mint Candy Apple

Sunday my parents woke me up bright and early by calling my house phone (joy)… BUT I ended up being happy they did because I took the puppy for a walk with them and their babies at the state park.

It was a really nice way to start my day off.  After the long walk (about three miles or so), my little baby was wiped out!

After spending some time with the hubby and running some errands, during which I was anxiously awaiting going to the barn, I finally got to go out for a really nice trail ride.

It was a bit chilly, and he hadn’t been ridden in two days, but of course, he was absolutely wonderful!  In fact, we were both so relaxed, our usual “gallop fields” consisted of a leisurely, ground covering canter.  Hey, I’ll take it!  He actually felt wonderful, at both the trot and canter his tempo was slow but he was really stepping underneath himself and out for gorgeous floaty feeling gaits.

This weekend we are going to a hunter pace in Connecticut, I am stoked!!  It has been too long since our last pace or show, and it will be fun to explore a new place.  Hopefully it warms up a little- this morning was a solid 38 degrees when I woke up at 7 am!!

Weekend Trail Ride

Saturday morning I went trail riding with two of my friends for a few hours.  It was a beautiful day, and we had an amazing time.

My boy was perfect, even though a friend’s horse was acting up.

Today I am going to school our flatwork a little bit.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!! Now to eat breakfast and go to the barn.

Rubber D Ring for the Win!

So after the great success of the rubber pelham on Tuesday, I decided to try a rubber d ring snaffle today and WOW what a horse I had.  I think his neck lengthened at least four inches!  He really wasn’t afraid to reach his neck out and he was like butter in my hands.  Who would have thought I needed less bit for a slower steadier horse?!  I am stoked, because my goal has always been to show in the hunters but he was a little too quick.  Maybe next summer that won’t be too outrageous of a goal now that I discovered how happy and relaxed he is in the rubber bits!  Here’s some pics, we were stylin’ today.  TS breeches color is french blue btw.

Of course everything can’t be perfect…. he had a loose nail in his right front. WOMP WOMP WOMP.  I texted my farrier and he said he will come tomorrow or saturday.. thank goodness because we have the pace Sunday!

Horsie wore his Eskadron memo foam boots today… he has an extensive Eskadron wardrobe.  But what’s not to love, it always looks nice and wears like iron!  Eskadron is hands down my favorite brand for boots, and their bell boots are the only ones that have lasted me and not been shredded.

Now I am watching the Central Park horse show on tv and snuggling with my baby

I am in LOVE…. with the rubber pelham!

So I rode with the rubber pelham today… and O.M.G. horsie felt amazing from the moment I got on!  So light and relaxed, I think that because the mouth was so soft he did not worry at all about it.  I tried the one I had which was a 5″, so it was super tight on him…. can’t wait to get his size 5.5″ and ride with that.  IMG_7345

I even jumped around an entire course and he was waiting and listening no problem… I even did some of the adds, which is rare with Mr. Leave them out!  I was so stoked that he felt so great I didn’t even think about giving my phone to a friend who was riding at the same time to snap some pics, which I am very sad about.  Friend told me horsie was jumping great, which is good to hear that he looked as good as he felt.

I also rode with the new bridle… the Vespucci Figure 8.  It fits super nice.  The leather quality is also really good. I love the way it seemed to wrap around his head.

Lastly, another item made it’s debut today… the Just Over The Top (JOTT) vest that I picked up at the Hampton Classic.  It only stayed on for 5 minutes because once I started grooming I sure heated up!  I guess it’s warm!

It definitely is feeling like fall outside.  My front lawn every morning has been covered with visiting wild turkeys… I guess I have a good lawn?

LOVING this fall weather

So I haven’t posted in a while, I have been busy being outside enjoying the weather that feels like my favorite season, FALL, going wine tasting and working working working!

Also, my horse has been AMAZING and I can’t get enough of galloping around fields with the crisp breeze blowing on us!!

Have been getting in as many trail rides solo and with friends that I possibly can before the dreaded daylight savings relegates my trail adventures to weekends only….. womp womp womp.

So work has been nuts- not the most fun.  I want more riding time, but I need to work to be able to afford my horse for riding time.  It’s hard being an adult.

In other news, the puppy got groomed.  My mom took him for me while I was working, thanks mom!!

I seriously cannot wait for hunt season to start again.  I have been going through all my hunt clothes, making sure I have everything that I need (and don’t need), drooling online at new hunt attire that I most certainly do not need, and just generally getting excited!

Opening cubbing (hunting pre-season) starts next Wednesday (while I work of course) but next Sunday we are going to Massachusetts for a hunter pace!  I have never been to this one but trainer says there are a lot of huge stone wall jumps!  Score!

In other news, I had a lesson in which I got a photo, which is rare! (I begged trainer to take it)  I used to beg mom and/or hubby to come to lessons and take photos for me but they got bored of that rather quickly.

Not perfect photo but I’ll take it!

Lastly, I have been seriously considering putting the horse on some kind of joint care program, since he is 11, works fairly hard and hunt season isn’t easy on him.  My mare was on Adequan, so considering that but also I have looked into Legend.

Weekend Recap

So it was a long weekend *yay* but so humid I didn’t ride saturday or sunday.  Monday I decided I was just going to go for a trail ride, and that it would be a good idea to try out my hackamore, for the first time, on trail (because I am brave like that).

My trail ride was just what I needed… relaxing and beautiful!  Wonder pony LOVED the hackamore.

We even galloped the fields and I had no problem at all bringing him right back to me.  There is nothing like feeling the effortlessness of a thoroughbred gallop!

Even though we didn’t do a tremendous amount of work, we were both hot and tired.

Lastly… for those of you all who use Higher Standards for your leather care- how often do you use the leather balm?  I’ve been using it once a week just wondering what everyone else does.

Where is all the daylight going?!

First off- some puppy cuteness!

The weekend went SUPER fast.  Went to the Hampton Classic Sunday (where I thought I would take pics, but I was too busy drooling over all the Hunter Derby horses in the Grand Prix ring)

Bought a few ribbon belts- including this one that I wore today

I had a pleasant ride today- Mabou felt really great, worked on bending and him moving off of my leg.  So nice to have a good ride because last week I was feeling a little burnt out.
